Motion in the state parliament
SPÖ demand free access to contraception
In Austria, not getting pregnant is often a question of money. This is because long-term and safe contraceptives can cost several hundred euros, criticizes SPÖ party leader Manuela Auer. A parliamentary motion is to ensure that this changes.
Former MP Gabi Sprickler-Falschlunger had already campaigned for free access to contraceptives. She recently donated 4000 euros in prize money, which she had received at the award ceremony for the first Vorarlberg Women's Prize, for this very purpose.
Promises from the state councillors
On site, the two state councillors Martina Rüscher (ÖVP) and Katharina Wiesflecker (Greens) promised to work towards the implementation of free contraception. "We are now demanding that the two state councillors keep this promise. It must not remain just words. Action must be taken now," said Manuela Auer.
She tabled a corresponding motion in the state parliament. According to the motion, the state should create a low-threshold and free access to contraceptives for low-income women and girls. There should also be broadly effective education on contraception.
