Painter Walter Gamerith
Museum of local history now has a new treasure trove of paintings
Donations add further showpieces to the collections at the Krahuletz Museum in Eggenburg.
"Walter Gamerith, who lived from 1903 to 1949, was even a member of the famous Vienna House of Artists," explains Gerhard Dafert, Chairman of the Krahuletz Society, which looks after the museum of the same name in the town, with due reverence for the great painter. Among the donated paintings is a self-portrait of the artist as well as one of his blind brother Bruno. The latter was a pianist.
A total of five of Gamerith's works are now in the care of curator Norbert Schröckenfuchs, who is also delighted with this valuable addition, thanks to a donation from a patron who wishes to remain anonymous.
New treasure
However, the historically extraordinary "Krahuletz" has even more special works relating to Eggenburg, the focus of the collection, to look after. On behalf of his late parents Eva and Burghard Gaspar, their son, the innkeeper Maximilian from Straning, handed over an additional Gamerith collection as well as a drawing by the artist Fritz Eheim (1938 - 1981). Dafert emphasizes that he is infinitely grateful for each of these treasures and any other (smaller) treasures donated later by other patrons.
