Mayor wanted
Salzburg looks ahead to the Innsbruck election
Three weeks after the mayoral decision in the city of Salzburg, the next important city election is on the calendar. Innsbruck is electing a new municipal council and mayor today. As there are 13 mayoral candidates and just as many lists, a run-off election is likely in two weeks' time. The political offices in the city and province of Salzburg are also looking forward to the Tyrolean capital. Unlike in Salzburg, the Greens with city leader Georg Willi have a chance of coming first in the municipal council and making it to the run-off.
The same applies to the FPÖ, which - without a chance in Salzburg - is battling with the Greens for the most votes and has a chance of reaching the run-off. The ÖVP is hoping for more support than in Salzburg; former State Secretary Florian Tursky wants to lead the party into the run-off. The SPÖ, which received support from Salzburg's new mayor Bernhard Auinger at the end of the election campaign, only has outsider chances. The KPÖ Plus is significantly weaker than in Salzburg. Just getting into the municipal council would be a success.
