Team wing Nigg stays! “I see a lot of potential”

The Fivers had reason to celebrate before the end of the basic round in the Handball Liga Austria: Before the home game on Saturday evening against top team Schwaz and former keeper Boris Tanic, they extended the contract with team wing Jakob Nigg. The "home-grown talent" will help shape the future.

From shooting star to team player and part of the European Championship show - Jakob Nigg has now extended his contract with the Fivers handball team for two years. "I see a lot of upside potential, I want to take the next step and I'm really excited," said the 20-year-old wing to the "Krone", who will be in greater demand in future due to the transfer to Switzerland of second team player Eric Damböck. "A new role. But I want to take on even more responsibility as a leading player." Club boss Tom Menzl is also pleased: "'Niggi' will take on a bigger role, can develop further with us and prepare for his international career."

Saturday evening (20:20, live fan.at) is the next chance for the Fivers to prove themselves. They will face top team Schwaz at home to conclude the basic round of the league. "We want to take revenge for the Cup exit, we're feeling a bit angry after the last three defeats and are therefore determined to win," said Nigg. "We have to make sure that our opponents get really scared again in Hollgasse."
