Traffic chaos after accident in front of Pfänder Tunnel

A spectacular accident occurred directly in front of the portal of the Pfänder Tunnel in Bregenz on Friday afternoon. An air conditioning technician and his company car were rear-ended by a truck that suddenly braked.  

It is not yet clear why the truck braked so abruptly, but a technical defect cannot be ruled out. In any case, the driver behind had no chance of avoiding a collision. The company car was completely demolished by the force of the impact.

The fire department had great difficulty cutting the accident victim out of the wreckage - but ultimately succeeded. The slightly injured man was then taken to Bregenz Regional Hospital.

The accident could have ended far worse. The air conditioning technician was carrying a total of seven containers with highly explosive gases in his car for professional reasons. Fortunately, these were properly secured and stowed away, which is why there was no danger at any time.

Due to the recovery and clean-up work, the Pfänder Tunnel had to be completely closed in the direction of Germany. The result was traffic chaos in Bregenz.
