Off to Germany
Fixed! Herburger moves to Füchse Berlin
Handball team player Lukas Herburger is moving from Swiss champions Kadetten Schaffhausen to German league leaders Füchse Berlin this summer. As the capital city club announced on Monday, the defense specialist has been signed to a two-year contract.
"I think every handball kid who starts out in Austria wants to play in the German Bundesliga one day. That's also a dream of mine, and the fact that it's happening now is incredible," explained the 29-year-old circle player.
Title contenders
The Foxes, who only beat Schaffhausen in the European League play-off the previous week, are currently first in Germany and are in a neck-and-neck race with Magdeburg for the title. For the coming season, they wanted to find "an agile interior defender who can bring in new energy and a certain mentality. Lukas is the one who was at the top of the list," explained Füchse sporting director Stefan Kretzschmar.
Herburger, one of the main pillars of the historic European Championship in January this year (8th place), moved to Schaffhausen in 2018 after winning five championship titles with Hard, won the championship three times with the Kadetten and is currently on his way to a fourth title. The Swiss club is now releasing him from his contract a year early. "We don't want to spoil this great opportunity for him," said Schaffhausen.
