Uproar over Alonso
Hülkenberg furious: “That could have ended badly”
In the run-up to the race in Japan, Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg was once again furious about an action by Fernando Alonso at the Australian Grand Prix. The Spaniard had forced George Russell's accident with his brake test. Something like that could end badly, warns the German.
"It's simply the wrong corner for such a maneuver. It could have ended really badly," Hülkenberg criticized his Spanish opponent to Bild. Alonso had used a brake test in Melbourne. In this maneuver, the Aston Martin driver braked earlier than usual to surprise his rival Russell.
Has repercussions
As a result, the Briton lost control of his Mercedes, crashed into the track barrier and was thrown back onto the track, where he came to a halt. "We're racing towards the corner at 260 to 270 km/h and can't see the exit. If the marshals don't react quickly enough and get the flags out, it can happen that one of us crashes into George at full speed," said the German, annoyed.
Alonso was given a time penalty by the race referees, dropping him back to eighth place. This is not the end of the story for Hülkenberg: "We will discuss this at the drivers' meeting." Not only the maneuver itself, but also the track in Melbourne in general will have to be discussed.
