Speeding and accidents
34 people injured in Easter traffic on Tyrolean roads
The windy and cold weather kept traffic to a minimum over the holidays, according to the police. Nevertheless, there were 26 traffic accidents and numerous injuries. The provincial traffic department draws a preliminary balance.
Günther Salzmann, head of the provincial traffic department, describes road users over the Easter weekend as "responsible and considerate". Nevertheless, the provisional accident figures of 26 incidents (20 last year) and 34 injuries (21 last year) are higher than the figures for 2023. It is at least pleasing to note that there have been no fatal accidents between Good Friday and Easter Monday since 2021. Once again, the main causes of accidents were excessive speed, carelessness and distraction.
The weather meant that there was almost no motorcycle and moped traffic, which is usually the case at Easter. The special truck driving bans on the highway were also "very well observed", according to reports.
40 tickets "gone"
The focus checks on speed, alcohol and drugs also resulted in numerous violations. 53 alcohol and eleven drug drivers were on the road, and 4738 speeding offenses were punished. 40 drivers had their licenses revoked.
