Trailer overturned: Lipizzaner horse trapped

On Holy Saturday, a serious accident in Bocksdorf in the district of Güssing triggered a major alarm. During a transport operation, the horse trailer of a car driver hit the verge and overturned on the embankment.

The accident happened in the morning for as yet unexplained reasons. The horse trailer overturned twice. Both Lipizzaner horses, which were in the trailer, were trapped under the wreckage.

The firefighters from Bocksdorf were supported by comrades from Stegersbach. 35 men were deployed to rescue the injured horses. Rescuing the animals required great sensitivity.

Both horses injured
The animals had suffered cuts and their circulation was in danger of collapsing. Veterinary surgeon Christoph Haller from Markt Allhau quickly and expertly administered first aid: "Fortunately, the consequences were manageable. Much more could have happened in this serious accident."

Others celebrate Easter, we save animals. Thanks to many helpers, the serious accident ended relatively lightly for the Lipizzaners.

When the horses got back on their feet, the emergency services breathed a sigh of relief. Both Lipizzaners, ten and 20 years old, were taken to the veterinary clinic in Kottingbrunn in the district of Baden (Lower Austria) for further medical treatment.
