After the Formula 1 crash
Williams: Two cars, but next dilemma looms
The Williams Formula 1 team will once again have two cars at the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka next week following a crash in Melbourne. However, there will not be a replacement car and the next dilemma is looming
In Melbourne, Alexander Albon destroyed the car in practice and his team-mate Logan Sargeant then had to watch the Grand Prix as a spectator due to the lack of a third car.
Team Principal James Vowles confirmed on the team website that both drivers will have a chassis again in Suzuka. "I am confident that we will be able to repair the (damaged) chassis," he said. This was brought back to the factory in England on Monday.
As certain car parts had been delayed before the start of the season, the use of a third chassis had been postponed until the third race, and now there are further delays, not least because of the accident in Melbourne. "But we will have a third chassis soon," assured Vowles.
One of the most challenging F1 jobs
He explained that building a chassis requires thousands of hours of work and is one of the most demanding jobs in Formula 1. Team Williams is still without any championship points after the first three races of the season.
Here is the championship standings:
Vowles also let it be known that favoring Albon, who caused the accident, over Sargeant was his toughest decision in Formula 1. On the other hand, it is understandable: Albon had scored 27 out of a total of 28 points for Williams in 2023.
