Mühlbach village chief:
“I want to remain Willi for the people”
He is the new man at the top of Mühlbach am Hochkönig: Willi Bodner. The roofer and plumber prevailed in the run-off election. For the first time, a Freedom Party politician is at the head of the municipality.
It is a surprise success for Willi Bodner and the FPÖ. The party and its top candidate won three seats and the mayor's seat in Mühlbach am Hochkönig from a standing start. Even though Bodner had to go into a run-off against Josef Wölfler ("Für Mühlbach").
Stepping down for full-time mayor
Willi Bodner is well known in the community. His family runs three guesthouses and apartment buildings, and the 52-year-old is a roofer and plumber. Now at the head of the village, he will cut back on his job and wants to be full-time mayor. "But I don't want people to call me Mr. Mayor. I just want to remain Willi," says Bodner.
He scatters roses for his predecessor Anna Reitinger (ÖVP). She initiated projects right up to the end. The expansion of the fire department and building yard is on track. The new mayor would like to see the kindergarten and the addition of an assisted living facility tackled. "There are ideas, but the financial situation is difficult."
