Apprentices get a polish in the “living room”

Upholstered benches forming bunks; plants dangling from the ceiling - the entrance area of the Siemens training center in Linz is reminiscent of a modern restaurant concept. The site and training manager of the "Krone" revealed the considerations behind the choice of carpet color.

The Techbase Linz building in Wolfgang-Pauli-Straße: The WIFI Upper Austria and the Ibis Styles Hotel, where many Siemens employees go for lunch, are located in the immediate vicinity.

45 young people spend a total of 55 weeks here as part of their apprenticeship, "during which they get the finishing touches," says Friedrich Beißer, who manages the training center.

Günther Schallmeiner takes the elevator to the fifth floor, where the company has set up the training center. The Siemens branch manager's office is one floor below; the training center was deliberately located this high up. Schallmeiner speaks of "training in a living room atmosphere".

In addition to training rooms, workshops and laboratories, a spacious break zone has also been set up in which the color green dominates - in furniture, lamps and carpets. "This is intended to stimulate creativity," says Beißer.

Apprentice training for customers too
In the electrical laboratory, five apprentices are busy putting a system into operation - they are currently searching for a fault. "Teamwork is required," says Beißer. The company does not shy away from guests: customers can also have their apprentices trained here.
