Organ spring
The queen of instruments heralds the arrival of spring
The organ is considered the queen of instruments and can be found not only in churches but also in concert halls. This year too, a festival is dedicated to it in the period after Easter under the direction of Gunther Rost, which can be experienced throughout Styria under the motto "Dreamtime".
Classical organ works alternate with world premieres, prominent organists with students from Graz University of the Arts. KUG professor Gunther Rost has also come up with a lot of ideas for this year's Organ Spring, which runs from April 5 to May 22 across the country.
The opening event will be an exciting encounter between organ and voice: SJ Hanke's composition on Schnitzler's "Traumnovelle" will be premiered at the Mumuth in Graz with Rost on the electronic "Black Organ" and Werner Strenger as narrator.
500 years of music history
What follows is a journey through 500 years of music history, in which the organ appears as a solo instrument, a stage character, but also as a high-tech computer. Powerful sounds by Anton Bruckner, Robert Schumann and Max Reger can be experienced on April 17 in the Heilandskirche in Graz. Petra Rudolf will read from Freud's "Interpretation of Dreams".
The Italian organist Claudio Brizi invites you to a "Transfigured Night" in St. Veith am Vogau on April 21, and visions of silence are on the program on April 24 in the Heilandskirche and on May 5 in the Weizbergkirche.
Rost will perform the grand finale with his 4D Baroque Orchestra on May 22nd in the Herz-Jesu-Kriche in Graz. Under the title "Traum und Zeit" (Dream and Time), he will span the spectrum from George Frideric Handel to a world premiere by András Hamary.
