Lawyer: “Many perpetrators simply won’t stop”

Tyrolean lawyer Michael Mikuz has been representing victims of stalking in court for years. What he reports about the suffering of those affected and the intransigence of many perpetrators is harrowing. The lawyer talks about the worst cases from his day-to-day work. 

"Krone": Mr. Mikuz, you represent stalking victims who turn to the Gewaltschutzzentrum Tirol. How widespread is this offense in our society? 
Michael Mikuz: Stalking is one of the main crimes when it comes to domestic violence, alongside assault and dangerous threats. I alone represent around 20 victims every year. If they contact a violence protection center - as they exist throughout Austria - they can organize free legal support if required.
