87-year-old found dead in stream near Miesenbach

430 helpers were deployed to search for the 86-year-old in Miesenbach near Birkfeld. But unfortunately without success: on Tuesday, the dementia patient was found dead in the bed of a stream. Now the family is left with nothing but grief - and gratitude for the support they received.

The 87-year-old man was missing for a whole seven days and was finally found on Tuesday. But unfortunately not alive. The dementia sufferer from Miesenbach in Eastern Styria was recovered dead from a streambed a good walk from his home.

Family thanks all helpers
Painful news for the family and all the helpers. "It is with great gratitude that we look back on the support and solidarity of the last few days," family members posted on Facebook. Around 430 helpers from the fire department, police, rescue services and private individuals assisted in the search. They scoured 530 hectares - including helicopters and drones - but unfortunately without success.

The search operation had already been discontinued last Saturday. Less than half a week later, municipal workers discovered the body of the 87-year-old in a stream in Birkfeld. The police were able to identify the man and were forced to confirm his death.
