Third fire in Simmering: woman dead in apartment
There was another devastating fire in Vienna's Simmering district on Saturday night. This time, however, it was not a cellar fire but an apartment fire. While the fire department was fighting the flames, they found a lifeless woman in an apartment.
At 11 pm on Saturday, officers from the Simmering municipal police command were called to an apartment fire in Lorystraße. While the fire department was fighting the fire, a lifeless woman was discovered in the apartment.
Despite immediate rescue measures, it was too late to help the woman. The Vienna State Office of Criminal Investigation has already begun its investigation. It is currently assumed that the deceased is the 58-year-old resident.
Two cellar fires
A post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death was suggested by the criminal investigation department, but there are currently no indications that the fire was caused by someone else. Further investigations into the cause of the fire will be carried out by a fire expert in the coming days.
According to the Vienna police, the third fire in a row is unlikely to be connected to the cellar fires of the past few days. This is because the first two fires in Simmering were probably caused by an arsonist.
