Extinguishing work after forest fire in Tyrol completed
A sigh of relief for the area around the Plansee in Tyrol! After several fires broke out on Thursday, the firefighters were able to bring the flames under control and extinguish the fire. One suspect (36) is in custody. The road was reopened.
It was an anxious time for almost countless firefighters over the last few hours and days. As reported, several fires broke out on Thursday in the municipal area of Breitenwang west of the Hölltal "Höllboden" near Plansee.
Some of the fires had advanced into impassable terrain. This made it difficult to extinguish the fires on around 20,000 square meters of forest. The work had to be stopped at around 7 p.m. on Thursday. This was continued on Friday and finally completed on Saturday morning.
Around 60 men and women from the Breitenwang, Lechaschau and Reutte fire departments as well as the Reutte mountain rescue service and a police helicopter were deployed on Saturday. The Plansee road was also closed during the work. It has now been reopened to traffic.
Suspect in custody
The fires are believed to have been started by a lighter or a lit cigarette. A 36-year-old man was apprehended in the vicinity of the crime scenes on Thursday. He is suspected of having started the fires. He confessed during questioning.
