Hour without a heartbeat! Drama surrounding national player
Ahmed Refaat collapsed on the pitch during a match between his club Modern Future FC and Ittihad. The Egyptian international suffered a cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital. After an hour, his heart started beating again.
"Ahmed Refaat's heart stopped beating for over an hour. After the resuscitation attempts at Zamzam Hospital near the stadium, his heartbeat gradually increased," the club explained in a statement.
Doctors did not give up
However, the Egyptian international's life is still in danger: "His condition remains critical, so he cannot yet be transferred." The fact that Refaat is still alive at all is nothing short of a miracle - after all, his heart did not beat for over an hour. But the doctors did not give up.
The match was abandoned in the 88th minute after the dramatic scenes. Refaat has scored two goals so far in the national team kit alongside Mohamed Salah.
