An analysis of the situation
Communism: No spectre is haunting Europe
In addition to Graz, there could soon be a communist mayor in Salzburg. In Germany, too, the left is part of three state governments. However, the state of international communism does not point to a red renaissance. Why this is the case.
It emerged from an urban uprising in north-western Russia, spread around the globe, developed a deep, internal rot and finally largely disappeared from this earth again: communism. Today, it lives on only in a weakened form. Among the remaining communist states, North Korea is a lone voice in the red desert, but even there the markets have changed the nature of the economy.
The famous "Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels from 1848 begins with the famous words "A spectre is haunting Europe - the spectre of communism" and is currently being used to great effect by Kay-Michael Dankl in Salzburg and Elke Kahr in Graz on the occasion of the communist successes. But what is the actual state of the "Communist International"? Is there such a thing as a global communist renaissance?
