Driver crashes into the gate of Buckingham Palace

On Saturday night, a car crashed into the gates of Buckingham Palace in London. The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, but had to be taken to hospital afterwards. 

There was great excitement outside the official residence of the British monarch: after the accident, armed police rushed to the scene. A video from the British newspaper "Mirror" shows the police surrounding the driver, who is kneeling on the ground with his hands on his head.

A witness told the newspaper: "I heard a loud bang, looked over and saw that the car had crashed into Buckingham Palace. The police were on the scene pretty quickly - got the man out and arrested him."

According to the video, the driver is said to have been driving a dark compact car - in the clip you can see that the driver had switched on the hazard lights. There are said to be no other casualties.
