Before the Olympic qualifiers
Handball team boss: “Going all-in like at the European Championships”
Team boss Ales Pajovic and European Championship all-star Robert Weber want to lead the national team to the Olympic Games in Paris next week. Beforehand, the two handball heroes proved their heart for children.
"My problem with the national team is always the width of the squad," admitted ÖHB team boss Ales Pajovic in the Bärnbach handball hall. "That's why I think it's good and important that the clubs use the hype of the European Championship," said the Slovenian, who shortly afterwards gave helpful tips to more than 90 children as a star guest at a taster training session.
Just like Robert Weber, European Championship all-star and player-coach at HSG Bärnbach/Köflach. "We need young people in Austria now so that we can take the upswing with us for our sport."
It's all about the Olympics
Next week, all eyes will once again be on the handball players throughout Austria when the team coached by Pajovic and led by Weber plays in Hanover to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris.
"We're very happy to be there at all and have three tough opponents in Germany, Croatia and Algeria. I'm convinced that all my players will arrive fully motivated and then we'll go all-in like at the European Championships," promises Pajovic.
Annoying the big nations again
Weber is hoping for the same team spirit that characterized the team back in January: "We've stayed in touch over the past few weeks and it won't be long before that spirit is back."
"We've already shown that we can upset the big names and take points off them. We will step on the gas and hopefully fulfill our big dream of the Olympics," Weber continued.
To Hanover on Sunday
Team boss Pajovic can draw on a full squad and does not have to give anyone up due to injury. "And my wife has already taken a vacation for the beginning of August," he said with a wink. The Olympic handball tournament starts on July 25...
The entire team will meet in Hanover on Sunday evening, where the opening game against Croatia is scheduled for Thursday.
