In Bad Gastein
Jack-of-all-trades wants a turnaround with his list
In Bad Gastein, Günther Steinbauer (ÖVP) is stepping down after 20 years as mayor. Several candidates are vying to succeed him, but one really wants to know...
Franz Weiss is a colorful dog. The man from Gastein has been a parish secretary in the village and a snowboard official at the Olympics. He is the head of the ski club, a mountain hut landlord and since February he has also officially been the head of the Bad Gastein citizens' list and a candidate for mayor.
"A lot has been neglected in Bad Gastein in recent years," says Weiss (59). The municipality's failings are nothing new in Gastein, but there is now a massive investment backlog in infrastructure.
Investments need to be made in childcare and schools in particular. Most recently, the Felsentherme's debts made the headlines. "They are around four million euros. It's definitely not bankrupt, but the public should know that it has long been a subsidized operation."
