For the first time, a European Women's Handball Championship will be held in five countries in 2026. As the European Handball Federation (EHF) announced on Friday, the tournament will be held the year after next from December 3 to 20 in Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Turkey. 

The previous maximum number of hosts was three nations. This year's European Championship will be hosted by Austria, Hungary and Switzerland from November 28 to December 15.

Final in Poland
According to the press release, the EHF has decided to combine the individual bids from the Czech Republic/Poland, Romania/Slovakia and Turkey in order to "bring top women's handball to as many European markets as possible". Preliminary rounds will be held in each of the five nations, with the main rounds taking place in Romania and Poland. The final matches will be held in Katowice, Poland.

Russia was originally intended to host the 2026 European Championships. However, due to the war of aggression against Ukraine, the EHF withdrew the tournament from the Russian Federation.
