Container classes for pupils: the first locations

Due to the high influx of refugees, Vienna wants to set up mobile classes. The locations are now fixed - and are already causing a stir. 

City Councillor for Education Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) wants to set up a good 100 new mobile classes at several locations. The reason is family reunification in the asylum sector. 

Where will the containers go? The City of Vienna announced this on Friday: 

•  10th, Ada Christen Gasse 9

•  11th, Hoefftgasse 7
•  21st, Rittingergasse 29A
•  22nd, Afritschgasse 56
•  23rd, Akaziengasse 52-54

Residents in Afritschgasse fear negative consequences for their safety. And that important sports areas will be lost. However, it has not been confirmed that refugee classes will move into the Torricelligasse secondary school, as insiders suspected.

"There was probably a mix-up," says the Wiederkehr office. 

The mobile classes will be set up in a closed compound of a maximum of nine classrooms, toilet facilities, checkrooms and a team room. Where daycare is already available, its capacity will be checked at the same time.

"The locations 2, Aspernallee 5 and 4, Schäffergasse 3, were assessed negatively as they are not structurally feasible. We are currently working on alternative rental options in the city center," explains a press release.
