Slalom canceled! Feller wins crystal globe
Ski racer Manuel Feller is the winner of the men's slalom World Cup. Following the cancellation of the slalom in Kranjska Gora, which was due to take place on Saturday, the Tyrolean can no longer be displaced from the top spot in the final competition of the season in Hinterglemm.
Extremely heavy rain over the past 24 hours had completely destroyed the course, according to the FIS World Federation on Wednesday, and the race in Slovenia was canceled.
For the 31-year-old Feller, the bullet win is the biggest success of his career alongside the slalom silver medal at the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz. This season, he has never finished lower than fifth in his specialty discipline and has won four races so far.
"Difficult to realize"
"It's a bit strange now," explained the Tyrolean in an initial reaction. "I would have preferred it to be decided at the finish - there's always more emotion involved. It would have been a bit of a pain in the neck." Under these circumstances, Feller's success was still somewhat difficult to realize, but there was no question that he had earned the globe. "I would still like to thank Linus (Straßer, ed.) for fighting so hard. I won't say no if we swap next year - I win Kitzbühel and Schladming and he wins the globe. Then we can both retire," joked the ÖSV technician.
