Woman dies in hospital after apartment fire

A fire broke out in an apartment in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Monday. Despite immediate rescue efforts, the resident later died in hospital.

A fire broke out in an apartment in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Monday. When the Vienna Fire Department fought the flames in the apartment, they discovered an 83-year-old woman lying in the apartment. 

Cigarette possible cause of fire
She was immediately given emergency medical treatment by a Viennese ambulance service and taken to hospital. However, the woman succumbed to her serious injuries in hospital.

According to current investigations, the fire was probably caused by a cigarette. The Vienna State Office of Criminal Investigation, Fire Investigation Division, has taken over the investigation.
