Toto Wolff recognizes: “Beyond good and evil”
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has also had to acknowledge that Max Verstappen will probably set the tone again this year. "He's beyond good and evil," the Viennese made clear after the opening GP in Bahrain.
"Someone told me he's in a league of his own. It's more like a galaxy of its own. Simply a strong performance from Max, he is beyond good and evil," Wolff praised the three-time world champion from Red Bull to Sky after his race win.
Vicious circle with temperature
However, the 52-year-old was less satisfied with his own performance. "We were doing well on the soft tires at the start, but then nothing worked on the hard tires. We misjudged the cooling level and had to cool the engine all the time." This in turn caused the tires to lose temperature, which ultimately triggered a vicious circle.
George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished the race in fifth and seventh place - behind the two Ferraris of Carlos Sainz (3rd) and Charles Leclerc (4th). Next Saturday, the Silver Arrows will be looking to strike back at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit and put down a first marker in the battle for the "Best of the Rest" title.
