Kremlin summons German ambassador to report
The German ambassador to Russia, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff, has arrived in Moscow for a meeting at the Foreign Ministry. The Russian state news agency TASS reported that he had been summoned because of the recently published recordings of a telephone conversation between German air force officers intercepted by Russia.
According to dpa, however, Lambsdorff went to a meeting that had been planned some time in advance. Neither the press office nor the ambassador himself commented on this for the time being. The intercepted phone call was about the possible use of Taurus cruise missiles in Ukraine.
No consequences in Germany for the time being
Russian state television published the recording of a confidential telephone conference between high-ranking Bundeswehr officers on Friday. Parallel to the publication, Russia made serious accusations against Germany. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on Sunday that he did not want to draw any personnel consequences for the time being.
On Monday, the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" newspaper also criticized Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). "This is not just a military mishap. It is a political scandal, and it shows the Bundeswehr in an appalling state."
