Woman seriously injured
Warning signs disregarded: Toboggan accident on a ski slope
A group of German holidaymakers wanted to have some fun on Saturday in the Zillertal in Tyrol. But the tobogganing trip ended for a 32-year-old woman with serious injuries in hospital. The accident took its course when part of the group left the toboggan run despite warnings.
The accident happened in the Spieljoch ski area in Fügenberg. A toboggan run leads down into the valley there. The German group of 31 men and women were on this run on Saturday morning with rental toboggans. After a while, 15 participants came up with a fatal idea.
Panic because the toboggan was going far too fast
Despite the warning signs, the Germans left the toboggan run and hurtled down a red-marked slope. It came as it had to: the toboggans became faster and faster on the hard slope. A 32-year-old woman fell off the toboggan in panic. One of her companions also jumped off. His abandoned toboggan then rammed into the 32-year-old. She suffered a fractured tibia and fibula.
The seriously injured woman was first treated by the piste rescue team. She subsequently had to be flown to Schwaz Hospital by helicopter.
