Wendy Holdener has published the last joint photo with her brother, who died a week ago, on Instagram. The slalom specialist and her brother Kevin had a close relationship. Life without him would "tear her heart apart", said the Swiss skier. The 34-year-old has lost his long battle against cancer.
"I can't and don't want to believe that you're gone. It tears my heart out when I think about having to live without you," Holdener wrote in the photo, which shows her sitting next to her wheelchair-bound brother Kevin. It is the last photo of the two of them together before the 34-year-old's death a week ago.
An insidious illness
The skier and her brother had an intimate relationship, Kevin also acted as her manager. At the age of 20, he was diagnosed with a rare and complex type of cancer. After many years, he lost his battle against the insidious disease last Thursday.
It is not only in Switzerland that there is great sadness. Wendy Holdener and her family have experienced great sympathy. Just three weeks ago, the family was able to celebrate Kevin's 34th birthday together.
