Banned from the stadium
After racism scandal: Netflix trouble for Vinicius
Trouble for Vinicius Junior! The streaming service Netflix, which is filming a documentary about the Real superstar, will not be allowed to attend the upcoming away game against Valencia FC. Consequences of last year's racism scandal?
Last season, racist insults were hurled at Vinicius Junior during Real's 1-0 defeat at Valencia. The result was an interruption lasting around ten minutes. After the incident, the stadium announcer called on the fans to show respect and refrain from making racist remarks. Shortly before the end, Vinicius was shown the red card after one of two pack formations in the match. Valencia FC was fined 45,000 euros. Three fans who had made monkey gestures were banned for life.
No access to the stadium
Now it's time for an explosive reunion at the Mestalla on Saturday (9pm/live in the sportkrone.at ticker): league leaders Real Madrid host Valencia. While Vinicius will probably be in the starting line-up, the streaming service Netflix will be banned. Valencia have banned Netflix from attending the match and filming scenes of Vinicius. "We cannot take part in something whose aim is neither known nor controllable and which aims to damage the image of our fans," a source was quoted as saying by AS.
The documentary about Vinicius is due to be broadcast in 2025. Racism will be a big topic. Hopefully, the focus on Saturday evening will only be on the sporting events.
