Was too "trusting"
Problem bear M90 shot: Animal rights activists protest
The problem bear "M90" has been shot by rangers in Trentino. Analyses had shown that the bear was an animal that had repeatedly shown excessive familiarity with humans in the past. It had also frequently frequented urban and peri-urban roads. It was therefore considered "dangerous".
The decision to kill the bear was made after an incident that had occurred in the past few days in the Val di Sole valley in Trentino.
"M90" had followed two friends who were walking along a forest path in the municipality of Mezzana. It had approached them to within ten meters and then ran off.
Bear located and shot
"M90" was located and shot by the foresters using the radio collar it was fitted with. Animal rights activists protested vehemently.
Currently over 100 bears in Trentino
Mezzana is located just a few kilometers from Caldes, the village where the problem bear "JJ4" attacked and fatally injured a 26-year-old jogger in April last year. Three weeks ago, Trentino approved a draft law aimed at curbing the growth of the bear population. Up to eight animals are to be killed each year. According to the latest estimate, their number is over 100.
