Pilnacek case: His laptop is now at the WKStA

The first seizures have been made in the case concerning secretly recorded statements by the now deceased head of the justice section Christian Pilnacek. As the Ministry of Justice confirmed to "ZiB2" on Monday, Pilnacek's laptop has been handed over to the Economic and Corruption Prosecution Office (WKStA).

However, the WKStA has not yet completely shelved Pilnacek's statements. Investigations are being carried out against unknown perpetrators on suspicion of abuse of office. According to the ministry, these are "responsible persons from the ÖVP circle".

Last summer, Pilnacek had spoken in a pub in Vienna's city center about the fact that National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) had allegedly accused him of never having turned down investigations. The recording ended up in the media.

No more investigations against Sobotka
However, the WKStA reported at the end of January that no initial suspicion of abuse of office had been substantiated against Sobotka. "For us as a people's party, this is no surprise," explained ÖVP Secretary General Christian Stocker at the time.
