Successful rescue
Mountaineers rescued from emergency on the Großglockner
On Sunday evening, two alpinists found themselves in mountain distress after a rockfall on the Großglockner. As a rescue was not possible due to the difficult weather conditions, the two Czechs had to spend two nights in an emergency shelter. The accident victims were finally rescued on Tuesday.
The Czechs spent two nights in the Glockner bivouac, which is located at an altitude of 3205 meters on a rocky ridge. Due to the strong winds over the last few days, it was not possible to carry out a helicopter rescue.
After several meetings with the rescue services, another rescue attempt was made on Tuesday - and it was successful.
Rescued by helicopter
"The climbers were rescued by helicopter using a rope. One had injuries to his shoulder, so it would not have been possible to descend. The other had a wound to his shin. They were flown to the district hospital in Lienz by the Christophorus 7 rescue helicopter," explains Klaus Brandstätter from the Heiligenblut Mountain Rescue Service.
