Crashed over embankment
SUV called emergency services after serious accident
Thanks to modern technology, a woman was quickly found by the fire and rescue services. On Monday night, the driver's vehicle crashed over an embankment in Upper Austria. The emergency call system in her SUV alerted the rescuers.
It is still unclear why the woman left the road at around midnight in the municipality of Tiefgraben near Mondsee and crashed her car over an embankment. However, her vehicle made an emergency e-call and the first rescuers were on the scene just minutes later.
Woman lying on the ground
"When we arrived with the first vehicle, the car involved in the accident could be seen below Mondsee Straße on Mondseeberg with its airbags deployed. We ran down the embankment together with the Red Cross Mondsee comrades. The female driver was not trapped, but was lying on the floor of the vehicle in the passenger seat area," said incident commander Johannes Schwaighofer from the Tiefgraben fire brigade, describing the dramatic situation.
Vehicle shot through the forest
It quickly became clear that the driver had left the road. The car shot across the steep embankment through a wooded area and a stream bed. A small tree was knocked over after the stream and the car came to a halt on the embankment around 100 meters later.
The injured driver was treated and carried over the embankment in a stretcher. The damaged car was recovered with a tractor. The operation was completed after around two hours.
