ÖVP-Wirtschaftsbund big winner despite losses

The ÖVP-Wirtschaftsbund, with Barbara Thaler as its incumbent president, has clearly maintained first place in the WK elections in Tyrol. Even the record number of 15 lists could not change this. However, with 69.7 percent (2020: 79.81 percent) of the votes cast and 699 mandates, there was a significant loss. Second place went to the Freiheitliche Wirtschaft.

"The economy has voted" was the message at the presentation of the eagerly awaited election results on Friday afternoon. There were a total of 52,867 eligible voters with 69,522 voting rights. 15 electoral groups with 1963 candidates and 282 nominations competed for votes. There were 965 seats up for grabs in 93 specialist organizations.

WB in first place, Freedom Party takes 2nd place
The ÖVP-Wirtschaftsbund led by WK President Barbara Thaler was clearly in first place. However, 69.7% represented a significant loss compared to the last election in 2020 (79.81%). At that time, Christoph Walser was still the leading candidate - as is well known, he resigned and had to answer to the Innsbruck provincial court at the beginning of February for a financial offense involving millions.

The FPÖ - Freiheitliche Wirtschaft secured second place with 14.8% - more than doubling its share (2020: 6.59%). The Green Economy came third with 6.4% (2020: 7.45%).

Of the total of 965 seats, 699 went to the ÖVP-Wirtschaftsbund. 130 were won by the Freiheitliche Wirtschaft. 48 went to the Greens.

Voter turnout was a sobering 37.4 percent (2020: 39.51). A total of 25,969 votes were cast.
