Alarm after “bonfire” at Iraqi ambassador’s residence

Scraps of paper on the grounds of the Iraqi embassy's residence in Vienna-Dornbach were allegedly set alight on Monday - the incident caused an uproar in the neighborhood. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. There is a lot of guesswork about the background to the fire alarm!

An evening operation by the fire department in Dornbach caused a stir and also anger. On Monday, "paper" was allegedly burnt at the residence of the Iraqi ambassador in Promenadegasse. Concerned residents alerted the fire department and the spectacle took its course.

There were several bundles of paper and ashes lying around. Employees spoke of scraps of paper that had been set alight.

Operation confirmed, background unclear
"The smell of burning filled the whole street, no idea what was really being burned there. Maybe they were just celebrating the breaking of the Ramadan fast - suddenly the fire department arrived with flashing blue lights," said a neighbor (34) in an interview with "Krone".

The firefighters confirmed the 40-minute operation, but did not want to say any more. So the guesswork continues ...
