Salzburg relay team wins historic bronze medal

It's never happened before! Admittedly, bronze in the mixed relay was already celebrated last year at the Junior World Championships for biathletes. But this year in Östersund, Sweden, a pure Salzburg relay team struck!

The quartet consisting of Wilma Anhaus, Anna Andexer, Thomas Marchl and Fabian Müllauer had a total of ten reloads and even fought for silver right up to the home straight. In the end, final skier Fabian Müllauer crossed the finish line in a very good third place, 18.5 seconds behind. Gold went to the team from Germany. Alma Siegismund, Lotta De Buhr, Fabian Kaskel and Linus Kesper beat France (+16.9 sec./13 reloads/4 penalty loops) with a total of nine reloads and a lead of 16.9 seconds. 

"Simply brilliant!"
Anna Andexer was jubilant: "The race was really brilliant today. I had a great day and got through with zero misses at the shooting range, which is just really cool for me. I also felt really good on the run and was always on a par with the Swede. The fact that we've now won the medal and defended it from last year is just brilliant."

Final runner Fabian Müllauer joined his colleague: "That was a really cool race today. I was under a bit of pressure because Wilma, Anna and Thomas simply delivered a really good race and I really wanted to bring home the medal. Thank goodness I hit the reload in the prone position straight away, but the last shot in the standing position was a bit shaky. It's all the nicer now that I scored and we won the medal."
