Bitterly cold hours

This was the coldest night of the year in Vienna

Wednesday night was the coldest night of this year's winter in Vienna. Minus twelve degrees were measured in the western suburbs. But it was even frostier in Lower Austria: Lilienfeld came out on top with minus 17 degrees!

The frosty temperatures could still be clearly felt in the early hours of the morning. In the eastern part of Vienna, a whopping minus eleven degrees was measured last night. In the city center it was a little milder, at minus five degrees.

Winter also showed its frosty side in Lower Austria. A whopping minus 17 degrees was measured last night in Lilienfeld and minus four degrees in Persenbeug. Nevertheless, the roads remained mostly dry until the morning hours.

Only in the Groß Gerungs, Ottenschlag and Persenbeug areas, as well as at higher altitudes and in forest passages, gritted snow is to be expected.

Up to 15 degrees at the weekend
It will remain frosty over the next few days, including sub-zero temperatures. However, temperatures will rise again significantly across Austria in time for the weekend. Only in parts of Salzburg, East Tyrol and western Styria will there be scattered rain. Otherwise, the sun will prevail everywhere, with three to 15 degrees. It will be warmest in the east of the country.
