Speeding through roadworks at 160 km/h: Speeder loses BMW

Two BMW drivers lost their vehicles in Upper Austria on Sunday. At least temporarily, as the police confiscated the two cars under the new speeding law. A 36-year-old was speeding through a roadworks at 160 km/h, while a 20-year-old accelerated to 140 km/h.

The first case took place on the Innkreisautobahn near the Voralpenkreuz junction. A highway patrol carried out laser measurements there in the municipality of Sattledt.

And they showed 161 km/h for a 36-year-old Serbian from Vorchdorf - he was driving a BMW 320 xD. Mind you, this was in a roadworks area where only 80 km/h would have been permitted.

The officers stopped the 36-year-old, took away his driver's license and confiscated his BMW.

Young speeding driver at 140 km/h
Same game, different scene: the police were also out with laser guns on Eferdinger Straße in Buchkirchen early on Sunday evening. A 20-year-old from Marchtrenk was speeding through a 70 km/h zone at 141 km/h in his BMW 318i.

This young driver also lost his driver's license - and his car for the time being. The competent district authorities will decide in the coming days what will happen to the two confiscated vehicles. In the worst-case scenario, the speeding cars could be auctioned off.

First speeding car cost 2000 euros
In Upper Austria, however, there has only been one known case of a forced auction since the law was introduced on March 1 last year: In November, a VW Passat changed hands in this way for 2000 euros.
