Trick thieves deceived Salzburg woman (79)

An unknown woman rang the doorbell of a woman from Salzburg (79) on Sunday. The senior citizen was involved in a conversation and forced into her apartment. Meanwhile, a second perpetrator forced his way into the apartment unnoticed and later escaped with valuables. The police warn against such trick thefts.

While the 79-year-old woman was distracted by the conversation with the unknown woman, the second thief was able to search the apartment. He took two car keys, a cash box with cash and savings books.

The second thief fled with the stolen goods through the bedroom window. Meanwhile, the accomplice ended the conversation with the 79-year-old woman and left the premises, according to the police. The two thieves are currently being sought.

The police are using the case as an opportunity to warn against such scams. The police also provide valuable tips.

• Use a peephole or intercom system to identify visitors.
• Only open the door with a security chain or door lock in place.
• Be suspicious of unexpected visitors, especially if they ask for a glass of water, a donation or to use the toilet.
• Always ask supposed officials or tradesmen to show you their ID card and check with the relevant authority or company by telephone.
• If you feel unsafe, call the police.
