Donald Trump and Elon Musk have launched a campaign against humanitarian aid. Most US development aid payments have been temporarily halted and hundreds of employees have been dismissed or made redundant.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is now under the supervision of Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He himself is the head of the agency, but has appointed someone else to run the business, Rubio said. According to reports, the new government is considering dissolving the agency completely. The website and the X account were suddenly no longer accessible.

In addition, several Democratic members of Congress were denied access to the agency's building. This order was issued by Elon Musk and his new committee Doge. "USAID is a criminal organization. It's time for it to die," wrote Musk. "Left-wing radical Marxists" who "hate America" worked there. Doge is expected to make suggestions on how to cut US government spending.

US President Trump announced that all foreign aid programs will be reviewed within 90 days. Funds for life-saving aid are excluded. Trump is pursuing an extreme America-first agenda and railed against the Biden administration spending too much money on migrants and people around the world.

High-ranking executives across the country have already been fired, furloughed or let go with immediate effect. Trump has created a "maelstrom of problems that endangers our nation and undermines America's credibility around the world", criticized several Democratic members of the US Senate.
