Four percent more start-ups in Salzburg

Salzburg remains at a dynamic level when it comes to company start-ups: 2416 people decided to implement their business idea in 2024. The increase compared to the previous year is 4 percent. 

Salzburg remains a good place to start a business: Converted, nine companies were launched every day in 2024. "We are delighted about the lively start-up activity. Salzburg is one of the top regions," says Peter Buchmüller, President of the Chamber of Commerce. 

The most popular sectors
In a comparison of sectors, trade and crafts dominate with 43 percent of all start-ups. The second-highest proportion is in trade (22 percent), followed by the "information and consulting" sector (19 percent). Tourism and the leisure industry account for a further ten percent, and transport and traffic for four percent. 

This is how old the founders are
In 2024, the number of start-ups under the age of 20 increased. "This is the generation that has already grown up with digitalization. But the number of young entrepreneurs over 60 has also increased. This group wants to continue to be active and offer their expertise even after their active working life has ended," says Peter Kober, Head of the Chamber of Commerce's start-up service.

New companies in Salzburg do not disappear straight away: after three years, 78 percent still exist, after five years it is 68 percent and after seven years it is still 59 percent.
