Second government statement by Schallenberg

Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg will make his second government statement in the National Council today, Wednesday. The occasion is that Karl Nehammer has resigned as Federal Chancellor and Schallenberg is now heading the cabinet as the longest-serving member of the government. 

However, he is unlikely to make any major announcements about the future, as the black-green coalition no longer has a majority and the head of government does not want to be part of the emerging blue-black government.

No new territory for Schallenberg
A government declaration is not new territory for Schallenberg. When he was in charge of the Chancellery for a few weeks between Sebastian Kurz and Nehammer, he was already faced with the same challenge.

The morning session will begin with a "topical hour", which will focus on the budget at the request of the SPÖ. Otherwise, the only other items on the sparse agenda are the election of members and substitute members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and a request for the "extradition" of Green Party Secretary General Olga Voglauer.
