Escaped prisoner captured with large-scale operation

"What's going on in Roseggerstraße?" - On Thursday evening, an agitated caller alerted the "Krone" to an operation in the middle of Ried im Innkreis (Upper Austria). What was going on? A prisoner had escaped from the prison and was recaptured. The 30-year-old Nigerian put up a fierce fight.

Three prison guard buses, several police patrol cars - the street was covered in blue lights. And officers stood around a person on the grass verge in front of a house. Onlookers watched from the windows and on the street.

What had happened? During a group exit from Ried prison in the Ried district, a 30-year-old prisoner from Nigeria ran away at around 4.40 pm. He ran off in an initially unknown direction, but was spotted a short time later by a police patrol in the area of Eberschwanger Straße.

However, the 30-year-old did not want to be recaptured by the two officers and continued in the direction of Peter-Rosegger-Straße. The policewomen pursued the fugitive and were able to arrest him a short time later. He must not have liked it, however, because he put up massive resistance.

Massive resistance offered
It was only when an off-duty police officer and a bus driver who happened to be present intervened that they managed to subdue the man with their combined forces. He kept trying to escape, tried to bite and spit at the officers and thrashed around wildly with his head. But nothing helped and he was taken back to Ried prison.
