Hunters crashed with quad bike: rescued by jumping

"The quad bike plummeted around 200 meters," says Werner Quehenberger, district manager of the mountain rescue service, describing the incident on Thursday in Annaberg. The two hunters were able to rescue themselves from the vehicle with a courageous jump, with one even remaining uninjured.

For unknown reasons, the two hunters came off the uncleared forest road from Lungötz (Neubachtal) towards Reiterhöhe (Gerzkopf) in their quad bike on Thursday afternoon.

"A huge stroke of luck"
"They managed to jump off during the crash. Nevertheless, they also fell around 80 meters. But they were extremely lucky," says Werner Quehenberger from the mountain rescue service. Because one of the two remained completely uninjured and the second suffered a leg injury.

To make matters worse, there is no mobile phone reception in this area.

"We climbed up to the casualties and provided first aid. However, the team from the notified Martin 1 rescue helicopter recovered the injured man." Ten Annaberg mountain rescuers accompanied the uninjured hunter down into the valley.
