Rapid brings back controversial former goalkeeper

Who would have thought it? Rapid has brought back a controversial former goalkeeper in Tobias Knoflach. The 31-year-old Viennese will strengthen the Hütteldorfer's second team for the time being.

Knoflach joined Rapid as a 17-year-old, played 68 competitive matches for Rapid II and a total of 40 competitive matches for the professionals. In 2013, he caused a match in the regional league to be abandoned after he clashed with the referee. His skirmish with Patrick Pentz in 2018 in the 327th Vienna derby is also remembered fondly, before they finally parted ways in 2020. 

Knoflach moved to the Italian fourth division, then played in Romania and until the summer as a substitute keeper in Hartberg. He will now strengthen the goalkeeping team of the second Rapid team coached by head coach Jürgen Kerber.
