At the Tschofenig triumph

Not only the red-white-red ski jumping fans in Garmisch and in front of the TV sets, but also the ORF experts Gregor Schlierenzauer and Andi Goldberger held their breath when Daniel Tschofenig landed. Fortunately, the 22-year-old from Carinthia survived unscathed and now travels on to Austria as the tour leader.

With his triumph on New Year's Day, Tschofenig secured the first red-white-red victory in Garmisch since Thomas Diethart in 2014. However, there was a scary moment in the final when he landed at 143 meters: his skis were cut, but the ÖSV eagle was fortunately able to avoid a fall.

"If the binding comes undone ..."
"Wow, lucky you, lecko mio! If the binding opens ...", said TV expert Georg Schlierenzauer when he saw the replay. Andi Goldberger, who was sitting next to "Schlieri" in the ORF studio, also breathed a sigh of relief.

In the end, the duo were also jubilant.

Practice hours after wobble
No wonder, as the ÖSV team continues to set the tone at the Four Hills Tournament. Tschofenig now leads the overall standings by 7.9 points ahead of Jan Hörl and 8.7 ahead of Stefan Kraft.

"They were two brilliant jumps. I still need to practise my landing a few more times," said Tschofenig after his wobble, which had caused a moment of shock.
