Wanted burglar extradited to Carinthia

A success for the investigators of the criminal investigation department of the Klagenfurt municipal police: after extensive investigations and international cooperation, the second suspect in a series of burglaries that kept several districts on tenterhooks from April 2022 to November 2023 has been arrested.

The police had already identified and arrested the first suspect, a 26-year-old Moldovan national, in February 2024. However, the search for his alleged accomplice, a 40-year-old man also from Moldova, proved to be more difficult. An EU arrest warrant had been issued for him, which ultimately led to his arrest in Barcelona on October 4, 2024.

After his extradition to Austria, the man was transferred to Klagenfurt prison, where he was remanded in custody. The 40-year-old partially confessed during questioning, but did not provide any information about his motive.

84 burglaries and considerable damage to property
The two men are said to be jointly responsible for (at least) 84 burglaries in the districts of Klagenfurt-Stadt, Klagenfurt-Land and St. Veit/Glan. This resulted in property damage of around 400,000 euros. The stolen goods - including cash and valuables - had an estimated total value of several tens of thousands of euros.
