After months of intensive investigations, the police have broken up a drug trafficking ring operating in Vienna. The gang, which operated under the name "COCO-Taxi", had disguised and advertised its illegal business for years - with graffiti on walls and bridges in the capital.

Almost two weeks ago, the last of a total of six suspects was arrested. The men, aged between 35 and 58, come from Austria, Egypt and Nigeria. They are suspected of having sold at least 3.6 kilograms of cocaine commercially in cab rides since 2019.

Cabs were confiscated
Investigators carried out raids and searches with the support of the WEGA special unit. Around 1.4 kilograms of cocaine and a four-digit amount of cash in denominations typical of the scene were seized (see photo below). The two cabs, which served as mobile sales points, were also confiscated.

The suspects, two Austrians (46 and 58 years old), one Egyptian (36 years old) and three Nigerians (35, 36 and 47 years old), were taken to a prison by order of the Vienna public prosecutor's office. Several members of the ring have already been sentenced to unconditional prison terms.
